A Change in Symbolic Characterization
Select four of the following seven characters with which to create a new symbol
that you feel best represents how they have been characterized and how they have
changed within the last seven chapters (chapters 7-14). Use the notes you have
made and consider how the author has chosen to describe them. View and reflect on
the first symbol you created for these characters. What points did you make for
these characters that are now different? Create a symbol that is approximately the
size of a half sheet of paper. You can draw, print or “build” something 3D that
represents the characters. Be creative. Use colors that best fit what you are trying to
convey with the symbol of your character. (Do not use stick people. If you cannot
draw, create something the best you can. It is a SYMBOL after all.) On the back,
write the character’s name, chapters 7-14, and an explanation of how/why this
character changed.
