Needs of Life
Energy, materials, and
living space.
*All living things are made
of Cells.
Unicellular- one cell
Multicellular- many cells
(see it).
Microscope and the
Discovery of Cells
In the 1660’s- Robert Hooke
first saw a cell in a
microscope- he named it the
cell because it looked like a
jail cell. (looking at a piece
of cork)
Anton Von Leeuwenhokefirst one to see a living cell
(in pond water).
Cell Theory
1. Every living thing is
made of one or more cell.
2. Cells carry out the
functions of life.
3. Cells come from other
cells.
Louis Pasteur
1800’s- Louis Pasteur
noticed that his beakers in
the lab were growing mold.
Because of exposure to air
and Bacteria------ Before
this, scientists believed in
spontaneous generation- that
the bacteria came from
nowhere. (chicken broth)
-Invented
Pasteurization(boil it to kill
microbes and seal it to
protect from bacteria)
Invented the cure for rabiesvaccine.
