Topics of study include basic business principles, personal finance concepts, management concepts, systems thinking, quality management, and the current environment for business in a multinational marketplace. Communication skills and basic mathematical concepts are reinforced in this course. Work-based learning strategies appropriate for this course are field trips and job shadowing. Simulations, projects, teamwork, and leadership activities, meetings, conferences, and competitions provide opportunities for application of instructional competencies. COURSE OBJECTIVES Explain the key characteristics of the private enterprise Analyze the role of the consumer as a responsible citizen Demonstrate effective leadership/communication skills Identify the key characteristics of government spending Explain the importance of money management among government, business, and the consumer Explain the importance of banking among government, business, and the consumer Explain the concept of credit and its effect on the individual and the total economy Explain the theory of savings and investments in our economy Explain the various types of insurance and explain how each provides protection against possible loss Analyze and develop an individualized career plan Demonstrate proper procedures for obtaining a job CLASSROOM RULES Always be honest.
