Art 3, week 13-14 Art in Focus, chapter 15: Gothic Art P.V.1.4 Evaluate the use of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design in art. P.CX.1.2 Understand how personal perspective is influenced by temporal context. P.CX.1.4 Understand how personal aesthetic responses to art are influenced by culture. Monday 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Take notes on the stained glass video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGAumT8aNkk Turn in notes, discuss what you learned in the video about stained glass, Gothic architecture and painting. At your table, conduct an internet search for “European Gothic Cathedral” and choose a different from your classmates’ groups. Look at images of the stained glass found on the cathedral you chose. What colors were used? Tell the story of one of the images by reading the image, not any associated text. Ideation for your own faux stained glass: write a list at your table of interesting scenes to create in the stained glass. We will use tissue paper and black acrylic paint, among other media. Your scene must include at least one whole person, head to toe, and at least one other object. You may copy the poses found in real Gothic stained glass but you must take a photo of someone in that pose. You may also create your own scenes or use family photos. See your teacher’s examples. You will be drawing from your photo. Take photos of your scene. Photos are due first thing tomorrow. Bring wooden sketching pencils tomorrow. Duesday 1. Persian Miniature Painting critique and assessment. 2. Read Art in Focus, pages 332, 334-335 and 341-343 about stained glass and its influence on Gothic era illuminations. Be able to tell what Gothic means. How were Gothic illuminations influenced by stained glass? 3. Submit your photos today. 4. Tape together plastic film for the base of your window. It should fit on a large drawing board. 5. Tape newspaper all over your drawing board so it won’t get destroyed. Write your name on newspaper, large! 6. Draw your stained glass on the layout paper. Trace in dark marker for visibility. Wednesday-Early Release, no class Thursday 1. Read page 348 of Art in Focus to learn about a modern stained glass artist. 2. Finish drawing your layout. 3. Look at stained glass examples of Marc Chagall. Look at the tissue paper we have and decide what colors you will use. All thin lines and contours will be painted in black acrylic paint or ink, whichever works best. 4. You may paint the tissue paper for ombre effects and for any color we don’t have. Also, raid your tissue gift wrap stash at home! Friday 1. Learn how to apply tissue paper for your collage. You may look up “faux stained glass” on the internet for more ideas. No pencil may be visible on tissue paper: be sure you cut it off. Overlap colors to blend and create shading. The entire image must have at least one layer of tissue on it. Next week: Paint your contours in ink or acrylic, add artistic vision. You must use paint, no markers or paint pens allowed. Learn how to create texture and drapery in your contour lines. Refer to real stained glass examples to guide you.
