Valentines: We will have a valentine exchange this Friday after lunch. Please refer to the class list I sent home last week for names. A small treat will be provided during our Valentine’s Day social. Mrs. Mueller sent out a notice last week about students decorating something at home to hold their cards in. If they’re not able to make something at home, they can make a paper envelope to hold their cards in. They can be creative and bring in their card holders on Friday morning. Thank you for your help. CogATs: All third graders in our school district will be given this inventory on 2/22. Our district gives this as a screener for possible identification for the gifted program. It is one of three criteria that student’s must meet in order to be identified as gifted learners. In order to prepare our kids I will be doing a few practice activities over the next two weeks in class. Mr. Boula will also send out a more detailed letter about the CogAT as it gets closer. If you have any questions between now and then, please don’t hesitate to ask. Thank you. Winter Conferences- I’ve set up a Sign-up-Genius account for Winter Conferences. Please click on the following link and select a time slot that best works for you. Thank you in advance for your help. I did update this link, so it is live. I have received many notices that parents have signed up for a conference. I’m glad it’s working. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0d44a9aa22a02-winter Focus Skills for this week: ELA Skills- This week we will learn about Fables and how they teach a moral/lesson and how to determine the central message. You can discuss a variety of Aesop’s Fables at the dinner table and challenge your student to find the moral or Central message. Math- We will continue with our fraction unit. We will work on partitioning shapes equally, identifying fractions on a number line, and locating fractions on a number line. You can engage in conversation at dinner about using fractions in real life situations. We discussed fractions in the real world today and several students made the connection with cooking and using fractions. We watched a studyjams video that connected fractions with money and football. Parents please note that students need to continue practicing their times tables and can use MobyMax Fact Master as a tool to help practice.
