Click on common core wiki to see the curriculum guide Common Core Parent Connection • If you would like to learn more about the common core curriculum and how you can help at home, you can visit the following website. • http://pta.org/4446.htm Testing in 5th Grade • Testing consists of one baseline test in reading, math and science. • Two benchmark assessments this year in reading, math and science • Students will be required to take reading, math and science EOGS in May. • Students take AIMS Web fluency and math tests three times a year. Report Card Scale A B C D E 100-93 92-85 84-77 76-70 Below a 70 Weekly Vocabulary and DOL • This grade will be included in your child’s english language arts grade. • Students are expected to study the DOL sentences and vocabulary words daily to prepare for the quizzes on Friday. Conferences Conference time will be here before we know it. Information will come home within the next month. • If your child is labeled AIG, you will be required to set up a conference in order to discuss and develop a DEP (differentiated education plan) Communication Teachers will communicate through e-mail and weekly Monday or Friday folders. If you have any further questions, please contact me and I will be happy to answer your questions. Infractions Any student receiving an infraction will be required to walk for 5 minutes during recess. The infraction is to be signed by a parent and brought back the next day. • Homework infractions: Students who forget their homework will receive an infraction slip. Two infractions for missing or incomplete homework within the same week will require silent lunch on Friday. Two homework infractions= Silent lunch • Behavior infractions: Students who misbehave will receive an infraction and will have an automatic Friday silent lunch. One behavior infraction= silent lunch Friends Friday Students who have no infractions or one infraction for no homework will be rewarded with Friends Friday. Friends Friday allows students to sit by their friends from other classes during lunch. Accelerated Math and Reading • Accelerated math is used for remediation and enrichment. • Accelerated reading is not used in 5th grade, however if students still would like to take tests, computers are available.
