NOUNS

Nouns carry important information in a sentence and complete sentences require
a noun.
COMMON NOUNS
1)
General name for a person, place, thing, or idea.
2)
not capitalized
PROPER NOUNS
1)
name of particular person, place, thing, or idea
2)
always capitalized
COLLECTIVE NOUNS
1)
words that name a group of people of things
2)
names specific groups
1) POSSESSIVE NOUNS
1)
form of a noun shows ownership of relationship
2)
add apostrophe
COMPOUND NOUNS
1)
made of two or more words together as a single noun
2)
may be single, two or more separate words, or hyphenated
VERBS
Verbs show what the noun/subject is doing.
TO BE VERBS
Verbs that don’t show that much action.
EX. Am, is, are, was, were, been, being, has been, had been, will be.
ADJECTIVES
An adjective describes or modifies a noun. It answers one of the following questions:
What kind? How many? Or which one?
ARTICLES
Articles indicate/warn that a noun is coming. The three articles are: a, an, the.
ADVERBS
Adverbs answer one of the following questions: How? When? Or to what extent?
PREPOSITIONS
Prepositions show the relationship of one thing to another.
CONJUNCTIONS
A conjunction is a rod/nail/peg used to join words or groups of words.
PRONOUN
A pronoun is a word that is used in place of a common or proper noun.
