Journal Prompt #12 In his farewell address, George Washington warned Americans about the dangers of political parties. He said: “However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.” In your words, rewrite what Washington is saying. Do you agree or disagree? Why? While Pol. Parties can sometimes solve problems, the only long term effect is taking all power from the people. They will destroy the democracy that lifted them to power.
