PTSO General Membership Meeting
October 13, 2015 – 7:05PM

Linda Russ motioned to approve the September 2015 minutes. Gwen Pride seconded the motion. All
in Favor. September 2015 Minutes approved.
Principal Report – Dr. Elizabeth Noto
 PSAT tomorrow grades 9-11. Students need to be on time. Students in Grade 12 will go to 1st
period for attendance then the auditorium for the Reality Store. We have some folks signed up
but we need more. Largely volunteer run. Balfour Dan will start Cap & Gown measurements.
Good opportunity to promote Project Graduation. Gwen Pride will chair. Samantha Whitfield
will co-chair.

Rumblings about parade. Suzanne Volpe willing to fund sheriff’s fees. Had agreement too late
in the game. Only students that previously participated in a parade is our current senior class.
Don’t want to slap something together and look disorganized. We will participate in Leesburg’s
Halloween Parade to promote community. We have a staff admin intern recruiting students for

the parade and a trailer on loan from a car dealership. I’m not against a parade. I’d love to see
the families that want to have the parade back to come and enjoy the Fair at the Falls.
Our theme this year is Building Community. We have three types of opportunities to bring in
and push out. Fair at the Falls brings community in.
SCA Community Outreach Liaison: Megan Abbott
 Homecoming Spirit Week Activities are posted on our website.
 There will be a pep rally on Friday.
 Fair at the Falls will start at 4 on Friday. We need volunteers.
 The Homecoming Dance is Saturday. Tickets can be purchased during lunch blocks.
Treasurer’s Report: Linda Russ
 180 members total. Ornaments need to start to be pushed. Only sold 7 so far. We will offer
the Panther Cards to all clubs to sell and split the proceeds 50/50.
 SAT (Helen will update): Only 4 kids signed up for Power Course. Need at least ten to break
even.
 Expenses so far was the purchase price of the ornaments
 Grants:
o #2 Michelle Derby (ELL) requesting Scholastic Scope Magazine $270. Helen ChangLin made a motion to give the ELL teacher $270 for the purchase of Scholastic Scope
Magazine. Missy Hooper seconded. All in favor. None opposed. Motion passed.
o #3 Lisa Beezer (mathematics) Requesting $700 for SOL End of Course Coach
Workbooks. Kathy Baker motioned to approve $700 for the purchase of SOL End of
Course Coach Workbooks. Helen Chang seconded. All in favor. None opposed.
Motion passed.
Teacher’s Report: Mr. Puterio




We’re here. Disappointing day from activities side. Blood Drive was here. Very few kids, 1
father. No adult participation. Key Club did not get the info out. January 14 next date. Mr.
Harding and Ms. Howe are new club sponsors. Car wash this weekend made $700. Activities
page on website. Junior class last Friday raised over $300 on their pink out Slime a teacher
campaign. Ms. O’Brian, Mr. Sponagaule and Mr. Murphy were selected to be slimed.
Powder Puff game is now in homecoming week on Wednesday the 21st. This event normally
raises around $5000 which goes toward the prom.
Night at the Falls: Sent info through Dr Noto. It would be okay to hold in March. We need
real numbers. Ideas and how we did it in the past: Ticketing could be a $5 entry fee or dinner
ticket of $15 would give you admission. Solicit a restaurant (Outback and Cheesecake Factory
have done it in the past) that would donate the dinner. Dinner itself we were getting for free
300-400 dinners with presold dinners. Two seating Coordinate with music (guitar ensemble,
quartet, elementary schools) for entertainment.
Senior class said yes to putting Mr. Potomac Falls into the night. They usually make $3000.
Theater holds up to 680 people. If you have dinner offer reserved seating to Mr PFHS March
12th. Should we move forward? All in.
Fundraising: Kathy Baker
 Looking into a program to pay for membership on-line. Cost is 2.75%. Will follow up by end
of week.
 BonChon Chicken restaurant night October 27th is on the first night of the World Series.
 Panera will be in November.
 Applebees: Saturday December 12th. Some possible additional fundraising activities could
include BackFlips for Tip and Raffles. We could try to get teachers as guest servers. We need
12-16 volunteers. This fundraiser could bring in as much as $1800 and we’d earmark the
proceeds for the Families helping families campaign. We’d suggest selling tickets for $10.
(60% profit for us). We’d receive instant cash. The restaurant can accommodate 300 people.

 SAT Test Prep only 4 registered. Needs 10 to go
 Kaplan Practice Exams: We showed 7 registered but the proctor said 30 were signed up. Only
2 showed up. Hopefully we’ll make it up during the winter test when the new SAT will be
available.
Hospitality: Samantha Whitfield
 Samantha has taken on the role of Hospitality Chair

Project Graduation: Gwen Pride stepped up as Chair of Project Graduation. She will ask the senior
class during the Reality Store event their input about where they want Project Graduation to be held.
