In order to help you remember the parts of a cell, you are going to make an analogy. Use the following analogy formula to help you come up with your own cell analogy! Analogies Formula: The [insert ORGANELLE here] is like [insert ANALOGY here]. The [insert organelle here] is the [insert SHORT FUNCTION here]. The [insert ANALOGY here] is like the [insert ORGANELLE here] because [insert REASON it is like the organelle here]. The [ANALOGY] does [REASON] just like the [ORGANELLE] does [SHORT FUNCTION]. Example 1: The endoplasmic reticulum is like a waitress. The endoplasmic reticulum transports proteins throughout the cell. The waitress is like the endoplasmic reticulum because they both transport products (protein in the cell, food in the restaurant). Example 2: The nucleus is like Jim Zorn (Redskins head coach). The nucleus is the control center of the cell. Jim Zorn is like the nucleus because he tells the redskins what to do. Zorn controls the Redskins just like the nucleus controls the cell. Use the back of this page to make your analogy! The nucleus is like: The cytoplasm is like: The ribosomes are like: The endoplasmic reticulum is like: The mitochondria is like: The vacuole is like: The chloroplasts are like: The cell membrane is like: The cell wall is like: The golgi complex is like:
