Geometry with Mr. Breslow
Potomac Falls High School
2015 – 2016 School Year
Welcome to Geometry
Welcome to Geometry! I am looking forward to an exciting and productive year. The information in this handout is
important and we expect you to share it with your parents. We will be following a “flipped classroom” model for many
units this year. Please see the “Flipped Internet Access” sheet for more information.
Geometry is an SOL course. We will be following the Loudoun County Scope and Sequence for Geometry and students
will be expected to take the VA SOL test in May. If you are struggling with any of the topics we’re covering, I am
available for extra help every morning by 8:30 am or by appointment. Additionally, Geometry help sessions are offered
every Tuesday morning from 8:00-8:40 in room 135.
We place strong emphasis on student responsibility and respect. Each student is respected as an important member of
the class and is expected to treat others in the same manner. We will be using the Remind app for this class to send out
reminders about upcoming assessments and due dates. Please see information sheet on how to sign up via text message
or via email. If at any time of the year you need to contact us, please email at jonathan.breslow@lcps.org or call 571434-3200 and ask for the math workroom. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
Our expectations of you are:
 Be Prompt: Arrive before the tardy bell, sit in you assigned seat, and begin your warm-up. Tardies are reported!!
 Be Prepared: Come to class with all the necessary materials (including a pencil and calculator) and ready to begin class on
time.
 Be Productive: Follow all instructions and put forth your best effort. Complete all assignments. Do not pack up until told
to do so-we work until the bell.
 Be Polite: Respect yourself, others, and your surroundings. Always use good manners. Foul language is not tolerated.
 Leaving Class: Agenda must be used. No one will be allowed to leave during instructional time except in the case of an
emergency.
Failure to follow classroom rules and expectations will result in disciplinary action.
Grading
Grading is done on a percentage basis. Tests will be announced 2-4 days before the actual test. You can expect a
short quiz almost daily on homework. Assignments and homework are due on the date requested. “Extra Credit” will not
be given. Throughout the grading period, students work on problem sets to reinforce concepts previously covered. There
are no “retakes” in this class. However, at the end of each quarter a cumulative test will be given and can act to replace
lower grades on any Unit Test. You will take daily homework quizzes on material from homework assignments.
Whenever a student is absent, a reasonable amount of time will be given for the student to make up work. The sooner
the work is made up, the sooner the student will be back on track with the class. Please note that it is the student’s
responsibility for missed assignments. Being absent on the day of the test/quiz means you will take the test/quiz the next
class after your return.
