The Sahley Sun Mrs. Sahley’s 2nd Grade News Week of April 24th Learning Targets This Week Math: (for the next 2 weeks)Mentally add/subt 10 or 100 to a given number and . explain why add/subt. strategies work We will also be looking at missing addends and arrays as that seems to be a challenge. Last week we looked at line plots and pictographs with bar graphs. Having them on Moby Max is very helpful. Literacy: RL 2.3 Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges. RI 2.1 Ask and answer such questions as who, what, when, where, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text RI 2.3 Describe the connection of a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text W2.7 Participate in shared research and writing projects W2.8 Recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sourcesto answer a question L2.4B: Determine the meaning of the new word formed when a prefix is added to the known word L2.4C: Use a known root word as a clue to the meaning of an unknown word with thesame root L 2.3E Adding suffixes to base words We will be focusing on the above standards on the Read Aloud Miss Rumpius and focusing on Earth Day. Letterland: prefixes un-, pre-, and dis- and dis-. Writing: Students are to respond to a level reader(will be sent home) letter level above where they were marked. So in their RED folder if they had been answering questions on H then go one level up. They will also answer the questions on the back page of the book. This is our last week to practice before testing In May, students will be assessed using the Reading 3D program. Students will read 3 passages to assess their fluency. The goal for the end of the year is 87 words per minute. Students will also read books and asked oral and written questions. The book level goal for the end of the year is level M (books are leveled in ABC order) This will give us accurate data on how much your child has grown with their reading skills this year! In addition they will take their last Benchmark, CA and AIMS Math. *volunteers-schedule may change due to testing…I will let you know when I know specifics.
