Sahley Sun Mrs. Sahley’s 2nd Grade News A note from the teacher: Week of September 7th Learning Targets this Week: Literacy 2.RL.1. Ask and answer such questions as Over the next few weeks we will be practicing and reviewing procedures for Daily 5. Daily 5 is a fantastic reading program where students “read to self”,” read to someone”, “work on writing”, play “word work” games (spelling), and “listen to reading”. This program promotes student choice and helps to develop life-long readers. I am very excited to get the system up and running and students are excited to read! This week I will finish assessing students on their reading fluency and comprehension. Students will then be working on specific targeted reading skills and I will pull small groups. TESTING I will be starting 3D testing this week. I will be assessing their word knowledge, recall of story, reading level and fluency. I will also be looking at their written comprehension. I will be doing this testing till approximately September 22nd. I will send home all information when completed. In an effort to make sure every child is included in birthday celebrations, we are asking that you notify either Mrs. Sahley or the room mom* of your plans for treats. We will need to know, in advance, what day you are bringing in the treats and what the treats will be. For example: cookies, cupcakes, popsicles, etc. This will allow the parents of the food allergic children to accommodate their individual child with a safe alternative treat. Please note that this is also a "peanut free" classroom. We may be able to provide a list of safe options from specific stores if that helps but this may take a bit longer awaiting a room mom*. May I suggest…new pencils, eraser toppers instead. ROOM MOM WILL BE AFTER VOLUNTEER TRAINING. All Changes in Transportation need to be handwritten. Lunch money in envelope with name and lunch number. Best way to reach me is debra_sahley@iss.k12.nc.us The phone does not show if I have a message, so please use email or call the office.
