Class Description:
This course provides an understanding of the basic principles, concepts, terminology and policies in
economics. The primary focus is on the American economic system and its relationship to the goals and
values of the American society. Attention is given to a basic understanding of the principles of the free
enterprise system and its necessary limited government regulation. An awareness of macroeconomics and
economic analysis and reasoning through the examination of such topics as scarcity, production, the
market system, the essential characteristics of capitalism, supply and demand, business, labor, money and
banking, the measurement of economic activity and government economic policy. Also, the relationship of
government and economics will be described in terms of multiple types of economic systems.
Quarterly Grades:
Quarterly grades for this class are calculated as follows:
Tests, Quizzes and Projects………75%
Homework and Classwork…….……..25%
Please be aware that extra credit is not offered in this class.
Make-Up Work:
The homework assignments for this class will be posted in the Phoenix gradebook, which parents and
students may access through ParentVUE and StudentVUE. Both parents and students also may sign up to
receive text messages about assigned homework through Remind.com. Students who miss class are
responsible for picking up work missed in class from me and for complying with the instructions attached
to the work.
Late Work Policy
Projects: Every project is due at the start of class on its assigned due date. A project must be fully
complete and submitted on time in order to avoid a late penalty, which is a 10% reduction of the project's
grade per each school day (not class) it is late.
Homework: Homework is due at the start of class on the assigned due date. Homework must be fully
complete and submitted at the start of class in order to avoid a late penalty, which is a 50% reduction of
the grade for the homework assignment if submitted by the next class.
Help Before and After School:
Students are welcome to meet with me for extra assistance, by prior arrangement, before or after
school. Students also may e-mail me with any questions or concerns.
