Careers Purposeful Podcast Project
Plan: (1) What do we need to know?
Objectives:
 I can use multimedia terms to explain projects.
 I can create a multimedia product using data to present information.
Do: (2) How will we learn it?
Select a career. Design and create an audio podcast about your career.
Study: (3) How will we know if we’ve learned it?
1. Research information about your career at CFNC.org
(http://www.cfnc.org/) and the OOH (Occupational Outlook Handbook)
website (http://www.bls.gov/oco/).
2. Collect information about your career that you want for a 5 to 10 minute
podcast.
3. Write a script that is either:
a. A monologue: your individual presentation, or
b. A dialogue: a conversation between two people (about one or two
careers)
4. Your script should include:
a. An introduction
b. Purpose
c. Content about your career
d. A conclusion
e. A bibliography
5. Your audio podcast will include all of the above, except the bibliography.
Design Tips for an Audio Podcast
1. Be Aware of Your Audience
 Think about the people who will listen to your podcast.
o Who are they?
o What will they expect?
 Then think about the content of your podcast.
o What is it you want to tell or show those people?
o Do you have that information ready for publication?
 Finally, think about the overall design of your podcast.
o Plan your podcast from the perspective of the people who will
use it.
o Use a format that helps you get your points across.
2. Planning
 A detailed plan is created that covers an appropriate topic thoroughly.
 A script is developed which contains an acceptable level of detail.
 A script contains a bibliography of cited sources (credits).
4. Developing Content
 Grab the audience’s attention with a compelling introduction.
 Establish a clear purpose.
 The majority of the content is original. Some elements of the content
may be quoted and the quoted material is acknowledged
appropriately.
 The content is to be accurate and appropriate.
 The student may create or generate his or her own media. Royalty-free
materials like music may be used and acknowledged appropriately.
 Creative aptitudes are used to enhance the podcast and to engage the
audience:
o Story/information interests the audience.
o Empathy elicits an emotional response.
o Symphony helps the audience see the big picture.
o Meaning makes the story/information significant.
 Develop a memorable conclusion.
5. Delivery
 A well-rehearsed, conversational style to be delivered smoothly with
appropriate volume, expression, rhythm, and pacing.
 Pronounce the script clearly, effectively, and consistently with correct
grammar.
6. Constructing
 The podcast shows care and effort.
 The quality of the production should aim to be excellent.
 A podcast may be enhanced with high quality and appropriate sound
effects and royalty-free music.
7. Podcast Tools
 Microsoft Word to create and type the script and to cite sources used
(at the bottom).
 Headphone Set with Microphone.
 Audacity software for recording audio podcast.
