YAKiToMe!
FREE Text To Speech Software
Accommodation Usage: Take any text that is in PDF, Word, Text file, RSS Feed, Webpage, or
Email
Powerful tool to assist students with reading difficulties access enrolled grade level content
Step I: Establish your user account






Go to the YAKiToMe! Web site http://www.yakitome.com/
Click on the top tab titled “Free Text To Speech”
Select “Open a FREE new account” (NOTE: you will only need to do this during your initial visit
to the site, alls subsequent visits will only require you to login as an existing user with your
email and password you have established)
Complete the required fields (email address, password and user name)
Read the Terms of Service
Select “Open New Account”
You will be sent an email to your email addres with a link that you
must click to activate your new YAKiToMe! account.
If you do not receive the YAKiToMe! activation email within a few
minutes, please contact us using the YAKiToMe! feedback form.
Please make sure than your spam filter does not block email from
YAKbot@yakitome.com. If you do not get our email in your
regular inbox, please look for it in the spam folder of your email
handler.
You will not be able to log into YAKiToMe! until you click the
activation link in the email we sent you. This is a necessary
precaution to help keep spammers and robots from abusing our
site.
Step II: Access your Email Account



You will have an email from YAKiToMe!
Select “Activate your New Account”
You will be able to access the sign-on page of YAKiToMe!
Step III: Sign-In

Use your email and password you created with your
registration to sign-in to your account
Step IV: Chose your option (Text to Speech or Podcast Library)

Text to Speech option will allow you to take an electronic file of
text and it will translate the text to speech. For directions on
converting “Text to Speech”, see Step V.

Podcast Library option will allow you to access already created
text to speech material created by other users (for example:
Macbeth, Moby Dick, A Tale of Two Cities, etc…). For
directions on navigating “Podcast Library”, see Step VI.
Step V: Using “Text to Speech”
(NOTE: example below is taking text from a website and converting to speech)




Have your YAKiToMe page on “Free Text to Speech”
Find the text you would like to convert to speech (go to the web and find any text)
Select the text (i.e. highlight the text and use the copy/paste function)
Follow the Steps 1-3 on YAKiToMe to convert the text
Step VI: Using “Podcast Library” to access Literature and Poetry








Select “Podcast Library” at the top of the page
On the left side of the page, find : “Filter Library View”
Select English as the Language, or another language to meet your student need
Select “Literature and Poetry” under the “any” filter
Select “Apply”
The “Podcast Library” will now display all Literature and Poetry files that are already in audio
format
Quick Tip: At the top of the listing of Literature and Poetry there is a menu bar that allows you
to sort by: rating, hits, topic, title and author
Double click on the selection you would like to hear and it will begin playing through your
media player
