WEST IREDELL MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND HANDBOOK 2013-2014 Band Director: Mrs. Jennifer Harrill E-mail: jennifer_harrill@iss.k12.nc.us Purpose of the Handbook Welcome to the West Iredell Middle School Band! The purpose of this handbook is to provide each parent and band student with important information that you will need throughout this school year. If you ever have questions, please feel free to e-mail me or call and leave me a voicemail. (E-mail is the best way to contact me, but the number to the school where you can access my voicemail is 704-873-2887) Band Mission Statement It is the mission of the West Iredell Middle School Band program to introduce students to the life-long understanding, appreciation, and learning in the world of music. We strive to provide a rigorous, stimulating academic environment in which students find both challenge and support. WIMS Band Expectations Do your best at all times! Practice regularly at home! Follow instructions the first time! Take pride in the music you play and the band you play with! Respect yourself and others around you! Be prepared and on time. Grading Procedures A = 93-100 B = 85-92 C = 77-84 F = 69 and below 50% Performance Attendance. Band is a performance art! All concerts are mandatory. These are the finished results of your hard work and should be taken seriously. There are NO excused absences from any performance. Because performances/concerts are a part of the students overall band grade, an alternate assignment must be given for missing a performance. 1 25% Daily participation. Having all materials, playing to the best of your ability, and not disrupting the class. 25% Playing/Written Tests and Instrument Inspections. Instrument Storage All instruments should be clearly labeled with the students first and last name. Students will be assigned a designated locker/shelf to store their instrument in the band room. This is for storage during the school day, not for overnight storage. I expect students to practice regularly, so their instrument needs to go home each day. The school and band director cannot be held responsible for any instrument left in the band room especially if it is left overnight. Please keep a record of the instrument serial number at home. If anything were to happen to your instrument, the serial number is necessary to recover it. Uniforms School appropriate pants, dark colored shoes, and a WIMS band polo shirt (purchased through the school later on in the fall). **Please return the bottom of this page to Mrs. Harrill** -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parent/ Student Agreement I/We have read and agree to follow and support the rules and expectations for band for the 2013-2014 school year.
