TONE AND MOOD HOW AUTHORS CREATE FEELING FOR READERS VOCABULARY • Setting- the time and place of a piece of literature • Mood- the atmosphere of a piece of literature; the emotions the reader feels while reading it • Tone- the attitude of the writer that comes through a piece of literature WRITING EXERCISE • Listen to this piece of music and write whatever comes to mind for two minutes. • Do the same with this one. • What ideas did you come up with during both writing times? • How were your two-minute writings different? • How did the music affect what you wrote? HOW WRITERS CREATE TONE/MOOD Authors don’t have music, but they still create mood. How? What are some of the strategies writers use to create feelings in their readers?
