Welcome to Accelerated Math 6/7
Mrs. Sauer
Overview:
After a brief review of Pre-Algebra concepts, we will
explore linear equations and inequalities, linear systems,
exponents, quadratics, statistics and polynomials. There
will be an emphasis on word problems and graphing
You can expect me to:

Reinforce classroom and school expectations

Treat you fairly and with respect

Provide help when you need it
throughout. By the end of the year, we will have a strong
foundation in writing, solving, and applying linear,
quadratic equations, functions and statistics. This course
does have an End of Course SOL test as well as
summative assessments throughout the school year.
I expect you to:
Algebra I is your first year of high school math and as such
will appear on your high school transcript.
The grade
earned in this course will be used to calculate your GPA..
In addition to studying algebra, you will practice good timemanagement, organization and study skills, all of which

Be respectful

Be responsible

Try your best
will benefit you throughout your lives.
Calculators:
Grading:
A point system is used to determine your grade.
The school has a supply of the TI-84 plus graphing
calculators, which will be used while studying linear
equations, systems, quadratics and statistics after you
have mastered the graphing of functions manually.
Your
grade will be determined by assessments completed in
class including quizzes, tests and homework. Homework
is recorded for completion as a 0 to 1 point depending on
completion. ( ie, 1 completed, 0.5 late, 0 not completed.)
Practice/homework will be assigned for each skill taught.
Extra Help:
Before school help is available on week day mornings at
7:55 - 8:15 and each morning of a quiz or test. Come in
prepared to ask questions; be specific about where you
are having difficulty. If you have been absent, I
encourage you to come in for help.
This may be completed in class and at home.
The
expectation is that it will be completed to the best of your
ability. Homework completion is entered in Phoenix.
Feedback will be provided.
Practice is probably the
most important step in the learning process because
it is where we develop confidence and competence in
our skills and understanding.
Retesting Practice:
WHAT DO I DO IF ABSENT?
Students may be allowed to retake any assessment of
their choice in Quarter 1, only 3 assessments in Quarter 2,
only 2 assessments in Quarter 3, and no retakes are
allowed in Quarter 4. In addition, the following conditions
must be met:
Every day in Algebra is important. That being said, I know

are responsible for any material you missed:
Corrections from the original assessment are made
on a separate sheet of paper and turned in with the
original assessment.
Supporting homework must have been consistently
completed.
1.
Check my website and print out the homework
assignment, notes and handouts, and come to the
classroom and get any additional handouts the day you
return.

If additional practice is needed, the student will be
advised.
2. Use your textbook and study the examples.

Retest score will be an average of the original score
and new score.
3. Complete the practice problems listed for homework.
4. Call your study buddy for help and explanation and
seek help during resource.
Semester Summatives:
5. Pick up your work from the “We Missed You” board
Algebra students will take summatives throughout the
school year covering sections or units.
A semester summative will be given at the end of Quarter
2 and Quarter 4. These summatives will count as a 100
point test and are not eligible for retake.
