1. Some animals go through distinct stages as they mature to adults.
 pill bugs (roly poly), mealworms, frogs, and butterflies
2. Some animals resemble their parents from birth to maturity and do
not have distinct stages.
 praying mantises, gray squirrels, and white-tailed deer
3. Know these terms about insects:
egg –the beginning stage in the life cycle of animals
larva –the second stage of an insect’s life cycle
pupa –the third stage of an insect’s life cycle
chrysalis –the pupa stage of a butterfly’s life cycle
adult –the final stage of an insect’s life cycle
metamorphosis –a change in the shape of body parts
molt –when an insect sheds its exoskeleton
4. Know these terms about the white-tailed deer:
 fawn –newborn deer
 yearling –deer 14-18 months of age
 buck - adult male deer
 doe –adult female deer
5. You will have to draw the life cycle of an animal. We have done this
in class for the butterfly, the mealworm, and the tadpole. Review
the projects that we have done in class.
