Monday Memo Ms. Abbate February 29, 2016 Class Agenda: Reading – We will aim to finish our cereal box projects this week! We will continue to work on Scholastic and nonfiction text features. If you need to check the level of a book your child is reading, online sources like Scholastic can be very helpful! Writing – We are continuing our nonfiction weather book! Students will be researching in groups, and then individually create a nonfiction book on the weather/storms/etc. I am so impressed by how hard everyone is working on their weather books! Also, even though we do not have school Tuesday, there will still be word study this week. Math –Fractions are challenging! Keep up the hard work! We will have a quiz on Friday where students will need to use LCM and GCF (least common multiple, greatest common factor) to solve attrition problems. Social Studies –Students will continue learning about the Revolutionary War! Reminders 1. Please continue your awesome donations for the Read-a-Thon! WE will set aside time for independent reading each day in class, and I encourage you, as always, to have a set reading time for the students at home every day. You can send in Read-a-Thon donation this week or pay on line. 2. Please continue to work on Reflex Math at home. I am seeing such an improvement in many of the students’ timed test scores in multiplication and division! Students are using these facts as they put fractions in simplest form, find the LCD of 2 fractions, and when we will start changing improper fractions to mixed numbers and mixed numbers to improper fractions. 3. No school Tuesday, March 1 (Happy March Everyone!!) 4. If you read the Monday Memo please draw a book in your child’s planner!
