Kindergarten Nine Week Plans Second Nine Weeks The kindergarten student will be immersed in a language-rich environment to develop oral language skills in all areas of instruction. The second nine weeks we will focus on the following Units: 1. Native Americans / Thanksgiving 2. Five Senses 3. Fairy Tales 4. Winter 5. Bears 6. Rhyme 7. The alphabet letters We will teach these units utilizing all areas of instruction: ENGLISH: We will read books on these units. We will listen to a variety of literary forms, including stories and poems . We will draw pictures, use letters and words to write about our experiences. We will write in our journals and make class books. We will use technology for reading and writing. We will use the listening center and computers. We will make letter books for each letter introduced. We will play rhyme and alphabet bingo. We will participate in creative dramatics. We will retell familiar stories using beginning, middle, and end. SOL # K. 1,2,3,4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 MATH: We will identify, describe, and extend a repeating pattern in common objects, sounds, and movement. We will continue to count the days we are in school. We will teach place value by counting the days in school. We will teach counting by 2, 5, 10 using the days in school. We will count aloud to 50. We will recognize numerals to 20. We will count backwards from 10. We will identify number sets as more, fewer, or the same. We will gather data relating to familiar experiences by counting and tallying. We will match numeral to quantity up to ten. We will use manipulatives. We will write our numerals to 10. We will learn the ordinal positions of three objects. We will use the Math Workbooks. We will do art projects utilizing these concepts and units. SOL # K. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20 SCIENCE: We will investigate and understand that humans have senses including sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste. We will cook and make thanksgiving pudding and gingerbread houses. We will teach about the winter season and how plants go through a life cycle. We will understand basic needs about animals in the winter. We will investigate and understand magnets. SOL # K. 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 9 HISTORY AND SOCIAL STUDIES: We will recognize that history describes events and people: Pocahontas, Thanksgiving, and Winter Holidays, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We will teach about Native Americans. SOL # K. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 MOTOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT: We will display small muscle control by tying, zipping, and buttoning.
