Hello parents,
Below is some information about what we are doing in our class this week! Please try to
reinforce this at home to help ensure success for your child.
Our Fruit and Vege tasting is tomorrow. Thank you to those of you who signed up to send items
in. If possible, please peel and cut into bite sized pieces before sending in tomorrow. Thank you
for your help with this fun project!
If you have not sent in the permission slip to taste or for the field trip please do so
tomorrow! We don't want anyone to be left out!
Reading:
This week we will be learning about various non-fiction text features such as time lines, tables,
charts and diagrams. Please be sure to continue reading nightly with your child, focus on selfcorrecting mistakes and asking questions to your child when done reading.
Writing:
We will continue to write with a purpose (persuasive, informative, or entertaining). Students are
working on writing to a target audience. When students are done writing their books they use a
check list to revise and edit their work.
Math:
We will be beginning our Money unit this week. Student will learn coin names, values, and how
to count coin combinations. Being able to skip count by 5’s, 10’s, and 25’s is very important
when learning how to count money so please practice this skill at home.
Content:
We are going to finish up our Spring Unit this week and move into our Force and Motion Unit.
Wednesday is our Dinosaur Park Field Trip where we will work to discover different forces and
types of motion!
Word Study:
New words come home on Monday. Please practice these every night, the features are getting
harder and students should be noticing them in their reading and writing!
Working with your child:
Practice skip counting by 5’s, 10’s and 25’s to prepare for our Money unit.
What are the different types of motion?
Read for at least 20 minutes each night!
-What is the author’s purpose? (to persuade, entertain, or inform).
-Encourage students to monitor and self-correct as they read.

Wednesday: Field Trip to Dinosaur Park. We will leave at 8:45 and return at 10:15 If we get
rained out, we will try for Friday!
