Thank you for all you do to continue to support your child and our school. Below is some
information about what we are doing in our class this week! Please try to reinforce this at home
to help ensure success for your child.
**Homework addition: Your child should have their Autumn Leaves book for homework
tonight. They had time to color this in class today, but if they didn't finish, they can do so at
home. In addition, I have asked them to bring in 4 or 5 leaves tomorrow to school. Try to find
different colors, shapes and sizes. We will use them for science tomorrow! Thank you!!
Reading: This week in reading, we will be learning how to think and talk about the stories we
read. We will be discussing how to retell a story including the beginning, middle, and end, the
characters, the setting, and use sequence words.
Writing: We will begin writing about Small Moments in our personal lives. Students will learn
how to plan a story and continue to write stories with a strong beginning, middle, and end.
Math: We will continue to work on number sense and counting/ordering numbers to 100. We
will be practicing writing, recognizing, and counting numbers.
Content: In Science, we will continue to study the changes in Autumn. We will discover why we
have day and night, and some of the seasonal changes we see in fall. We will also be looking at
leaves and why they change colors.
Questions to ask your child:
What are some things you should include when you retell a story? (Beginning, Middle, End,
Character names, Setting, Sequence words)
Review the following vocabulary words for science: sun, earth, axis, rotate, revolve, east, west,
north, south, rise, set.
Reminders:
* Important: the word study words (green, yellow, or white list of words) that come home at
the beginning of each week are to be used for Thursday night’s homework.
* All those of you who signed up to be chaperones on our field trip next week can go. More
