We will start the year off discussing the end of the Civil War and how the South was rebuilt. We will continue with settlers moving West, immigration, industrialization, the Progressive Era, women’s rights, the Spanish-American War, WWI, the Roaring 20’s, the Great Depression, WWII, and the Cold War Era. Throughout the year, students will work on assignments and projects independently, with partners, and in groups. At times, there will be hands-on activities to help solidify the information learned. Grading Information: Tests=50% Quizzes=30% Classwork=15% Homework=5% Retake & Redo Policy Our policy is to ensure that the best practices are followed for student achievement and success. If a student receives a grade of 70% or better, there will not be an opportunity for retesting/requizzing. Students must receive remediation either before or after school, during lunch, or during their resource time to communicate their misunderstanding with their teachers. The following methods will be used at the teacher’s discretion for helping the students to achieve mastery on the required standard or learning target: 1. Retesting/requizzing certain standards that were not mastered 2. Corrections made to previously ask test/quiz questions 3. Orally asking questions to allow the student to show their comprehension of tested concepts 4. A complete retest/requiz (this would be an extreme situation) Retesting/requizzing is something that should not be taken as an automatic occurrence. Students need to do their part to actively engage in class presentations and discussions. If situations do occur when concepts are difficult, students should make the effort to come in for extra help. A student not preparing for testing/quizzing doesn’t always mean that the retesting/requizzing opportunity will be available. If a student takes advantage of the retesting/requizzing policy, the highest grade they can achieve is a 70%. Our department goal is to have all students comprehend the importance of preparing and doing their best with their original efforts.
