Content covers career paths within early childhood education and services; developmentallyappropriate practices; integration of the curriculum and instruction to meet children’s developmental needs and interests; healthy and safe learning environments; principles of guiding children; teaching methods and strategies; and arranging learning centers that provide for exploration, discovery, and development. Work-based learning experiences in Tuscarora’s on-site Head Start program (under the supervision of the instructor) are required. Required: Three-ring binder (1.5-inches wide) Loose-leaf paper Pen/pencil $15 lab fee (for uniform t-shirt) Classroom Expectations: Please RESPECT yourself, your classmates, your teacher, and school property. **All students should observe all rules in the student handbook/agenda and posted in the classroom.** 1. ARRIVAL: All students are expected to arrive to class promptly and prepared. As soon as the last bell rings, students are expected to be in their assigned seats. 2. DISMISSAL: The teacher will dismiss the students, not the bell! Students are expected to be in their seats and working when the bell rings. 3. It is the student’s responsibility to bring all required materials to class every day. 4. Cheating will not be tolerated! Cheating includes copying other students’ work on any assignment, project, quiz, or test. If you cheat or allow/assist someone to cheat, all parties involved will receive a failing grade, and your parents and administration will be notified immediately. 5. Keep the classroom clean and respect furnishings and equipment. 6. Students should use the restroom during class change. 7. Electronic devices of any kind are not to be used during class without teacher direction/permission. Violation of this rule will result in confiscation. 8. Students should be familiar with and follow the LCPS acceptable use policies for technology. Make-up Work: IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO OBTAIN AND COMPLETE MAKE-UP WORK. If you have an excused absence, you will be allowed the same number of days as your absence to make up missed work. Make-up work must be done before or after school, NOT during valuable class time. It is very important to keep your notebook up-to-date and organized. Textbooks are not issued; therefore your notebook becomes your study resource. Cornell note taking will be implemented in the classroom. Notebook checks will be done at the teacher’s discretion. Notebooks may not be shared. NOTE - Tuberculosis Testing: Because students will be working with the children participating in the Head Start Program at Tuscarora High School, proof of tuberculosis (TB) testing dated 9/1/2014 or later is required. Students are responsible for getting TB testing prior to the start of the school year.
