To do this, they will learn vocabulary associated with family members and housing. They will also learn to use the verb tener to describe what kind of family and house they have. They will also learn the possessive adjectives. The cultural focus of the chapter is the importance of the family in Hispanic cultures. ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: How is the present-tense formed in Spanish compared to English? How is the present tense formation of –ar verbs similar to the formation of –er and –ir verbs? What does it mean when a verb is regular opposed to irregular in Spanish? What similarities and differences have you discovered about family living arrangements in the USA and Spanish-speaking countries? How does studying Spanish help you to better understand your own language and culture?
