Kindergarten News November 2015 Dear Parents, What a wonderful group of children you have given us! We have had great fun settling into learning. After some assessment to gauge knowledge of letters, sounds and (possibly) sight words, the students will begin working in small groups during November. We are starting to complete some wonderful work in our classroom! We are finishing our PALS testing. Report cards will go home on November 11th. The report cards will be sent home in your child’s folder. Since we discussed your child’s progress at the conference, the comment page will reflect our main points of our recent discussion. Between the parent-teacher conference and our first Kindergarten report card, parents should have a good gauge of how their child is performing at school and how to support them at home. Welcome back Mrs. Libbares! Mrs. Libbares has been spending September and October at home with her new baby girl. We have missed her at Cardinal Ridge and are so happy she has returned to work. Thank you, Mr. Williams for all your hard work during the first marking period with our Kindergarten students. We are so grateful to have you both working with our students! American Education Week: American Education Week will be the week of November 16th. This is an opportunity for parents to visit the classroom and participate in an activity with your student. Please see the American Education week information sheet that will come home soon Book Fair The book fair will run the week of American Education Week (November 16-20). Students will preview the book fair on Friday, November 13th. Your child will come home with a wish list and purchase books during the week of November 16th during their normal library time. You are welcome to send in money for your child on their library day. **Also, please email your child’s teacher if you are able to help students during their library times the week of Book Fair A few reminders: Library- Please remind your child to return their library book by Friday. Your student will check out a new book each week as they return last week’s book. *Please check the weather to ensure your child is dress appropriately for that day. Also, please check your child is wearing socks, long sleeves and other cold weather clothing for this time of year. The classrooms can get chilly and our play area is very cold since it is almost completely shaded at 11:15 AM when students go out for recess. Reading Strategies to work with your child at home: We continue to encourage children to point to each word as they read. We call this “tracking”. In the classroom, we have encouraged the children to “hop” from word to word with their finger. Also, please check out www.starfall.com this is a great language arts website we use at school.
