Class Updates
Happy February! I hope you all found your way
out of the snow! I’m glad we are back at school!
We will be decorating Valentine boxes and
giving Valentine’s to each other, so please make
sure your child has a shoebox (any size) and
please cut a “mailbox slot” in the top or side.
They will also need to make or buy 28
Valentines (in case we get two more kids!). I
will be sending home a class list soon! We will
not be having a big party, but I would like to
have the kids be able to decorate their boxes
and deliver cards.
This Month’s Topics
Math:
Fractions
-comparing
-ordering
-adding and subtracting
-mixed numbers
Measurement
Length: inches, centimeters, feet, yards,
meters
Tips of the Month
Science:
Animals
After your child completes their 20 minutes of
-producers/consumers
reading each night, ask them to give you a
summary of the chapter or small text they read. -predator/prey
They should be able to give you all the main
-herbivore, omnivore, carnivore
events of the story without including every
-food chain and food web
detail of the text.
-Energy pyramid
Next, ask them what was the most important
event in the book. This means, the event that
changed the story and would have affected the
ending if it had not happened. Finally, see if
they can make a connection to another text,
personal event or a world event. Ask them how
this helps them better understand the
characters or actions in the story.

Early Dismissals and Agendas
If you know you will be picking your child up early during the day, please send
a note in with your child in the morning. This helps us prepare to have your
child ready to leave on time.
It is important that each night your child look at his/her agendas to make sure
they are completing all of their homework. Parents, please sign at the
bottom of the page saying that you saw what your child was responsible for
completing. Thank you!
