Multiplication
Now that we are beginning our multiplication
unit, please have your child practice his/her
multiplication facts for speed and accuracy.
You may use the sites listed here for additional
review. Remember that the students need to
know their facts but ALSO be able to solve
word problems involving multiplication. The
children will be learning how to look at
patterns using multiplication, how to read and
create arrays, as well as completing tables and
charts.

Extra Skill Work Practice
We are using a website in class that gives your
child practice with improving your child’s skills
in many subject areas. If you would like to use
this resource at home too, it is located at
www.Mobymax.com. It has activities for
almost every subject area. The kids start by
signing in, then picking a subject area. The
user name is your child’s lunch number and the
password is their birthdate (they should be
familiar with this type of login.) The first time
they sign in to a particular subject area, the
site takes them to a pre-test to determine
their skill level. After that, the website
adjusts the activities to match your child’s
skills in these areas. Feel free to use this at
home if you feel your child needs additional
practice in one or two of the subject areas. I
would like all the kids to visit the Language
Arts and Reading sections, however.

Daily Reading Homework
Your child is asked to read each night for at
least twenty minutes. They are then asked to
fill in the book title, genre, and time read in
their agenda. It is important that some of this
twenty minutes be time spent reading aloud.
Some opportunities for this may include;
reading parts of the paper (if the reading level
is appropriate) with/for you, reading to a
younger sibling, reading to a family member, or
even reading from study material passages as
extra content review. Remember to remind
your child that we want reading aloud to sound
like natural speech, making it sound as
“smooth” as possible. I am including reading
websites that help give ideas and activities you
can do with your child. Happy reading!

One to the World Project
Your child should have received a packet containing information needed to conduct an interview.
Students should begin thinking about how their person made an impact on the world we live in
today. We will be working on this project in class for the next few weeks, researching, discussing
and putting together a presentation to share with you. More information will be coming home
shortly about our presentation day. I hope that you are enjoying talking about this person at home
with your child as well!
