COURSE TITLE:
Spanish for Fluent Speakers, Level I
PREREQUISITE:
IPT Testing in Spanish as needed to determine oral language proficiency
DESCRIPTION:
This course offers fluent speakers of Spanish the opportunity to strengthen
their basic reading and writing skills in their native language.

CREDIT INFO:
Students will identify and use key terms, will learn how to narrow a topic,
selection of relevant information, to evaluate good sources and responsible use
of technology.
Students will develop skills such as: intonation, pauses, confidence, coherence
logic, clarify persuasion through oral presentations and speeches.
Students will build vocabulary, distinguish between fact and opinion, identify
relevant details, main idea and theme, summarize and distinguish chronological
order through myths, legends and short stories
Students will develop grammar skills such as: accentuation, punctuation,
orthography through the process of writing an expositive essay, a short story
and a speech. They will also experience the process of writing different literary
genres.
Students will build knowledge of Hispanic Culture through research and
selected readings.
This course provides one credit toward fulfilling the foreign language
requirements for an Advanced Studies Diploma (three years of one language or
two years each of two languages. Students who receive credit for Spanish I in
middle school may count this course in meeting both credit and subject area
graduation requirements.

Students will build vocabulary, distinguish between fact and opinion, identify
relevant details, main idea and theme, summarize and distinguish chronological
order through the literary analyses of essays and a novel.
Students will distinguish between passive and active voice, identify
complements of the verb, subject and predicate, sentence (logical and
psychological).
Students will build knowledge of Hispanic Culture through research and
selected readings.
