Service: The pillar of service can be reached in a variety of ways. The willingness to work for the benefit of those in need without compensation or recognition of any kind is a quality that is essential in NHS members. As a service club, the National Honor Society is highly concerned with giving its all to the school and community at large. What is service? Tutoring, coaching, mentoring or providing lessons for other students – at any time – with no financial compensation Participating in any of the activities listed on the NHS volunteer opportunities link Babysitting for a school or civic organization without any financial compensation Participation in any religious, civic, community, or non-profit organization’s activity that offers goods or services to members of the community at no charge PEER, SCA, and office helpers – 25 hours maximum per school year Performance groups – church or school musical or drama – hours spent outside of the normal meeting time while performing for the community at no cost What isn’t service?
