The California Commission on Aging (CCoA) will hold its upcoming meeting in Chico on September
17th and 18th, 2015. Meeting in the home town of Commissioner Jean Schuldberg, the Commission
will be making its first visit to Butte County in ten years.
“I am pleased the Commission is coming to Chico to learn of the extraordinary programs that are
happening here in the field of aging,” said Commissioner Schuldberg. “It is especially important for the
Commission to spend time in rural California.”
The Commission’s visit will include a welcome by Dr. Zingg, President, CSU Chico and Joe Cobery,
Executive Director PASSAGES; a presentation by the Interdisciplinary Center on Aging and a panel
presentation discussing Challenges to Aging in Place in Rural California.
In addition Commissioner Schuldberg will be moderating an interactive presentation with lively
dialogue between CSUC students and older adults who participate in lifelong learning courses. The
Commission will also hear presentations from Ed Long, Deputy Director, California Department of
Aging and Monica Palmeira, Policy Specialist with the California Coalition for Rural Housing.
The CCoA is a citizen’s advisory commission composed of 18 members appointed by the Governor
and State Legislature. The Commission was created by state law for the purposes of policy advocacy
and advising the Governor, State Legislature and Departments on elder-related issues and concerns.
Because of the diversity of California, the Commission regularly holds meetings around the state to
ensure that the views of all older Californians are included in their advocacy efforts.
All meetings of the CCoA are open to the public. The September 17-18, 2015 agenda will be posted
10 days prior at http://www.ccoa.ca.gov/meetings_agendas.htm.
