Academic Theses: A. Students who have a 3.7 GPA can automatically take English 588 and write theses, if they so wish. B. Students who have 3.5-3.69 GPAs must solicit a [short] letter from a professor with whom they’ve worked and for whom they’ve written at least one long (10 pp or so) essay. The letter should affirm that the student is able to write sustained researched and argued papers, and that the professor would be willing, at least theoretically, to work with this student on a thesis. This letter must go to the instructor of English 588 to allow the student to take the course. C. Students who have GPAs slightly below 3.50 may write a letter to the Graduate Coordinator requesting permission to take option B above. The letter must argue the student’s ability to do thesis-level work. Creative Projects: A. Students who have a 3.7 GPA can automatically take English 588 and write creative projects, if they so wish. B. Students who have GPAs below 3.7 must solicit a [short] letter from a professor with whom they’ve worked and for whom they wrote at least one long (10 pp or so) creative work. The letter should affirm that the student is able to perform the kind of work necessary for a creative project, and that the professor would be willing, at least theoretically, to work with this student on a project. This letter must go to the instructor of English 588 to allow the student to take the course.
