Friday, April 8th, 2016 English 11A TODAY’S OBJECTIVES: Students will examine how the author’s purpose affects his/her use of language and choice of form. AGENDA: 1. Complete warmup #24 (following directions). 2. With clock buddy, finish excerpts from “How to Tell a True War Story” from The Things They Carried (pp.65-76); write down all the different ways that a war story is true. What is the author’s point about making such a big deal about the validity of war stories? As a class, discuss why Rat Kiley killed the baby water buffalo… 3. With clock buddy, read three poems from Vietnam and Iraqi War (see handout) from different perspectives and answer questions. 4. Complete your collection of 3-word phrases for original poem (see handout) from The Things They Carried and turn in on Monday. 5. Read together as a class pp. 94-95, 99-100, 102-104 from The Things They Carried and discuss characters, plot, etc. Then write a personal narrative (at least one paragraph) from the viewpoint of Fossie, Mary Anne’s fiance.
