Wednesday, January 6th, 2016 English 11A TODAY’S OBJECTIVES: Students will examine how the author’s purpose affects his/her use of language and choice of form AGENDA: 1. Submit electronically Draft Research Paper! Turn in Draft Research Checklist with your paper. 2. Complete next Huck Finn reading quiz (ch. 2025). 3. In your reading circles, discuss roles assigned for text read so far (e.g., Passage Picker, Succinct Summarizer, etc.) with your 1) expert group and then your 2) home group. Read excerpts from ch.23 (pp.183-184) from Huck Finn in order to answer the following questions: 1) what is Mark Twain’s purpose in writing this passage (what does he want the reader to think about) 2) who is the audience for these passages? 5. Begin the documentary entitled Which Way Home; take notes about various characters you meet in film (see handout). Complete written response about film on back of worksheet – turn in when complete. 4. HOMEWORK/UPCOMING DUE DATES: Vocabulary quiz for Huck Finn is Friday, 8 January (see vocabulary list on webpage). “Promise to Myself” (see webpage) – due on Monday, 1/11!
