1. (1st/5th) With clock buddy, compare the similarities and
differences between the poems “Boy at the Paterson Falls”
and “Traveling Through the Dark.”
 Describe the voice of each main character. What is the
motive for their actions?
 How would each character react if they came upon the
scene of the other (be careful – it may be subtle)?
Would they be supportive? Disgusted? How do you
know(provide evidence from poem)?
 What is the common theme for these two poems?

2. (1 /5th) Read “Popeye” by William Faulkner; notice
details and then make any connections between
“Popeye” and poems.
3. (3rd) Comment on the visual rhetoric used by photographer
(what makes the photograph poignant, important, etc.).
Watch Children of the Killing Fields. Listen to narration
accompanying photograph – does the narration change your
perception/point of view concerning photograph? If so, in
what way(s)?
HOMEWORK/UPCOMING DUE DATES:
 Read all of In Cold Blood by Friday, April 15.
 Read through pg. 117 (“Church”) from The Things
They Carried by Friday, April 8, and the remainder of
the book by Friday, April 15.
