Anticipation Guide:
Read each of the following statements. Decide whether you AGREE or DISAGREE
with each individual statement. Jot down a comment/rationale to support your
answer or an example to help explain your answer or an explanation as to “mixed
feelings” concerning the statement. Be prepared to present your perspectives to the
class.
1. All men are created equal.
2. Girls should act like girls, and boys should act like boys.
3. In society, it is okay to be different from what others consider normal.
4. People are either all good or all evil; there is no in-between.
5. Some words are so offensive that they should never be stated or written.
6. Under our justice system, all citizens are treated fairly in our courts of law.
7. This old saying still applies in society today: “Sticks and stones may break my
bones, but words will never hurt me.”

10. We should follow only the laws in society that make sense to us.
