Annual Report, 2011-12 Career Services Career services extended to students this past academic year include: 60 class presentations conducted, with a minimum average of 22 students per class. o Fulton-27 o Henson-9 o Perdue-16 o Seidel-8 33 workshops facilitated with an average of 20 students attending each. These workshops are exclusive to the workshops given at summer/winter Student and Parent Orientation, Family Weekend, Admitted Student Day, Greek organizations (3) or Residence Halls (2). A sample of the 20 topics offered includes: o Navigating the Federal Hiring Process o I Declare…Figuring out your Major and Minor (collaboration with the academic advisors) o How to Approach a Job Fair o Successfully Gaining Admission into Graduate School o Translating Study Abroad into Career Success o The Dream Share Project (outside speakers brought in) 2096 individual student appointments were held. We held 359 more individual appointments this year as compared to 2010-11. On average these appointments are at least 30 min. Thursday walk-ins accounted for 448 of these appointments. By far the most popular service we offer remains the resume assistance. (Table 1) Communication to students is in various forms: o Our newly introduced APP has 1200 subscribers. Its’ content in part is feed by our FaceBook, LinkedIn and Twitter sites. o 1398 students signed-up to receive weekly text messages from the Career Services Office. Over 40 organizations participated in this inaugural year. o “Skyped” two employer on-campus interview schedules o Gained yearly sponsorship of interview room with Trinity Logistics Career Services also provides overall service to the University as well as the Division of Student Affairs and the profession. Some highlights of this service include: Offered a 2 credit Career Planning class as a part of a new Living Learning Community, “The Explorers”. Additionally taught a 2 credit Career Planning class for seniors each semester. Supervised 6 interns in our office (CMAT and Art). Served on 5 search committees and 6 University-wide committees. Assisted Dr. Ken Smith with accreditation by providing student graduation data Helped VP of Student Affairs with Leadership MD project Initiated and serve on student organization People Soft committee to figure out a way to capture student activities for various departments on-campus Served on campus-wide “App” committee Active members with 2 career associations-Maryland Career Consortium and Selective Liberal Arts Consortium.
