BINF 6300: Intro to Public Health Informatics

Public health informatics is a scientific
discipline that applies information and computer sciences
and technologies to public health.
 Health information technology (HIT) is one of the highest growth industries,
with the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting a
49% increase in related jobs.
 Also recognizing the importance of HIT, The American Board of Preventive
Medicine has created a Clinical Informatics Subspecialty Board Certification
for physicians, which now requires formal informatics training.
 The Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics is creating a Certificate
and MPH Program in Public Health Informatics.
