First General Meeting Minutes



Introductions
o Maxie – President
o Brandi – Vice President
o Ryan – Social Representative

o Loni – Advisor
Guest speaker – Jenny Young from the bridge of Lubbock
o Helps the community
o Their Operations are every Tuesday
o Bridge to success, targets at risk children 6-12th grade
 Pair with a role model
 Tutoring and helping them with homework
 Teach them Life skills
 Inspire Goals
 Help them with College Preparation
 If they go to college they will be first generation college
students
 They can be supported by Financial aid
 Everyone can go to college
 Need someone to point them in the right direction
 They are very responsive
o Summer camp – discover the lack of nutrition, lack of education
o Bring in guest speakers every week
o The Bridge feeds them every Tuesday
 Need groups to help with the setup and material
o Coke drives
o Art supply drives
o Soup Kitchen
o Hygiene packets
o Think about bridge if you are passionate about helping the at risk kids

Overview of organization
o Double T Health Corp focuses on community service
o You will receive plenty of informative e-mail’s from Loni
o We do bunches of community service 
o Each meeting we try to provide with lots of opportunity
o Not mandatory
o We are very friendly
o We encourage lots of communicating
o Loni writes amazing letters of recommendations, like AMAZING!








ICE BREAKER!
We had a Habitat Build Day
o It was fun painting and building houses
Painted Homecoming Banner
o Looks amazing
Willow Bend Elementary School Mentoring Program
o You will be paired with a dedicated school student from elementary and
you go eat lunch with him/her
 This will make you a big Sister or Brother
o The kids get so excited
o 30-40 minutes for lunch
 Free food
o Talk to them and encourage them
o Come after school optional
 That’s for tutoring though
o They are proud and happy
o There’s a waiting list for children with NO big sister or brother sadness 
o Not much time commitment and it’s very generous to help be there for
them
o In need of males and females
o There is now an after school tutoring section 3:15-4:30pm
Race for the CURE!
o Go on the website and join the group
o Sign up by or on Wednesday if you can September 30, 2009
o $20 to join
o All you need to do go to http://www.komenlubbock.org/.
 On the left you will see join a team and search for the Double T
Health service Corps and join the team.
South Plains Career Expo
o October 20th from 8:00-1:00pm
o Show 2,000 high school students who sutures on pig feet
o Lunch at noon – Free
TMOM
o Dentist from local communities to do dental work on poor people for two
days straight
o Need entertainment for children of parents in line
o Obstacle, color me healthy, how to brush your teeth
o First day is setup
o Next two days are work days
o Shifts are varying towards the amount of people able to come
o THIS IS HUGE!!! WE NEED HELP!

Ronald McDonald House
o Monday, October 19th starting at 4:30pm
o Help people with chores
o Very helpful
o Sign in sheet is going around
o 30-60 minutes shifts, very short

Community Medical School
o $10 fee for the whole series, TECH STUDENTS ONLY
o $20 for non TECH Students
o Very informative
o Gives a binder with lots of information
