Broadcast Media Application (2016-2017) Jenks Freshman Academy “Broadcast Media” Application for school year 2016-2017. Please complete this application by Monday, February 29th. You will need to print off a physical copy and complete it by hand. Once completed, please place your application in the box provided at Jenks Middle School. Your application will be delivered to the Freshman Academy for consideration. Note: Please answer the following questions as thoroughly as possible. Your acceptance into the program will be largely based on how thoughtfully and fully you answer these questions. You may continue your answers on an additional attached page. Will you be involved in a sport during the 2016-2017 school year? If so, which one(s)? 3. Do you plan to work after school during the 2016-2017 school year? If so, how many hours per week and on what days during the week? 4. Classwork may have to be performed outside of class on occasional evenings and weekends. What problems do you anticipate (i.e. conflicts with job or activities schedules) this required classwork may present for you? 5. Do you routinely watch the news? 7. Do you enjoy reading books for pleasure, outside of reading you are required to do for school? 8. If you answered “yes” to question #7 above, please name two or three books you’ve read and tell a few things you liked about them. 9. A summer training lab is highly recommended for this class. Although this training is not a requirement, and should only last a few days, do you anticipate your summer schedule will allow you to be able to attend? 10. View several news segments from any channel (KOTV, KTUL, FOX23, KJRH, etc.) and answer the following questions: a. Summarize in your own words what one of the news segments was about. b. State at least three (3) things you liked about how the news was reported. Be as specific and detailed as possible. You may mention either shots you liked or things that were said by the news broadcasters. You may write in either paragraph form or simply list the things you liked. If a friend of yours is also applying for this class, please do not pick the same news segment your friend chose. If two students submit answers that are substantially similar, both students will be denied admission to the course.
