LIBERAL ARTS MENTOR All student teachers are required to have a Liberal Arts Mentor. This will be a faculty member of your own choosing, most likely from your major department, who will visit your classes at least once during your student teaching semester, provide you with support and feedback on your teaching, and act as a resource person. Your Liberal Arts Mentor will also serve as a member of your Portfolio Review Committee. We ask that when you are notified that you have been accepted into the Student Teaching Program, you immediately choose whom you wish to have as your Mentor. Contact that person to make sure he or she is willing to take on this responsibility. Secure an appointment with your Mentor. The Education Studies faculty will meet with all the Liberal Arts Mentors early in the semester to clarify their responsibilities. By the end of this semester, please give the name of your Liberal Arts Mentor to Jonathan Miller-Lane, AXT 107, x3459, or jmillerl@middlebury.edu. Revised 1/15 TRAVEL EXPENSE REIMBURSEMENT FOR STUDENT TEACHERS Students will be expected to provide or arrange their own transportation. Student teachers placed in schools outside of Mary Hogan Elementary School, Middlebury Union Middle School, and Middlebury Union High School will be reimbursed for their travel expenses. Students are expected to car pool with other Middlebury College students. Each semester reimbursement will be made only for car pooling expenses for one driver to such schools. WORK POLICY Student teaching is a full-time responsibility. Paid employment during your student teaching semester is highly discouraged. LICENSURE EXAMS Successful completion of the student teaching semester and licensure portfolio completes the Middlebury College teacher education minor and leads to a recommendation to the Vermont Department of Education for licensure.
