Bureau of Indian Affairs Decision Tree Division of Environmental & Cultural Resources Management 2051 Mercator Drive Reston, VA 20191 (703) 390-6524 Air Quality Management October 2007 Air pollution comes from many different sources such as factories, power plants, dry cleaners, cars, buses, trucks, and even windblown dust and wildfires. Air pollution can threaten the health of human beings, trees, lakes, crops, and animals, as well as damage the ozone layer and buildings. To help determine if air quality regulations apply to your facility, consider the following questions: 1. Does the facility have a spray booth? Welding or sandblasting units? A parts washer? 2. Are these units operated inside a closed building/room? 3. Do vehicles meet the state or local emissions inspection requirements? 4. Is the facility in a non-attainment area? (Refer to the “Managing Air Emissions” Fact Sheet for more information on non-attainment areas.) 5. Does the facility have air conditioning units or vehicles with air conditioning? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, the Air Quality Management regulations at the state and/or federal level (for example, the Clean Air Act, Title V amendment) may apply to you. Review this section on Air Quality Management for more guidance.
