Lauren A. Shurman
Experience
Lauren Shurman is a partner in the Litigation group and focuses her practice on
general commercial and employment litigation. Lauren has litigated complex
commercial disputes in federal and state courts and in arbitration, and has
represented clients in administrative proceedings before the Utah Labor Commission,
the Utah Public Service Commission, the Utah State Tax Commission, the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Utah
State Board of Education. She represents employers in matters relating to employment
discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, the Family Medical Leave Act and
non-compete agreements and trade secret law. She also advises clients on personnel
policies and has assisted employers in developing employee handbooks.
Before joining Stoel Rives as an attorney, Lauren was a summer associate in the Salt
Lake City office (2004, 2005).

In re Jordan School District (2008) – represented Utah's Jordan School District in
an arbitration to divide over $1 billion in assets and liabilities between the

IHC v. D&K, 196 P.3d 588 (Utah 2008) – obtained a favorable ruling that landlord

did not waive its right to evict tenant.

Represented a food manufacturer and distributor against disability discrimination


Defended a chain of convenience stores against Title VII national origin
discrimination and retaliation claims brought by a former store manager.
Obtained summary judgment in favor of defendant employer on all claims.
