Information Sheet Sharing Stories to Improve Health and Social Care We are from a regional group called CETL4HealthNE and we are made up of people from the North East’s NHS, carers’ groups, and universities. We call ourselves the People-with-Experience work group because we are particularly interested in developing Health in the North East by learning from people’s experience. We believe that health and social care can be improved by listening to what people say about their experiences. Our project is to help health and social care students see how important it is to listen to people’s experiences. We are collecting stories from people who want to share their stories in public. We will use the world-wide-web to share these stories so that health and social care students in the North East of England can learn from them. Invitation We would like to invite you to tell your story of your experiences as a user of health or social care services. This information sheet tells you what you need to know to decide whether to take this invitation. You can read this information, ask questions and you can change your mind about whether to be involved or not at any time. Telling your Story We would like to record your story using a video. We have specially trained people who will arrange to meet with you and listen to your story and help you make your recording. These people have had Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau checks. The recording will happen in the place that you decide on. It could be your home, or it could be in an outside place like a park. It will probably take a couple of hours to complete. You will be able to look at the video during the recording and you will be able to edit the video if you want to after the recording. You will see the recording before it is put on the internet. The recording will be for use in the education of health and social care students and professionals in the North East. You will be asked to choose a name for yourself rather than being referred to by your real name. The recording will be put on the internet and this means that anyone browsing will have open access to your recording. This includes professionals from health and social care. Consent We will not record your story unless you have given your consent to be included in this project. It is important to us that you understand that the final version of your story will be put on the internet for the education of health and social care professionals with open access to all internet users. You will be able to change your mind and withdraw your recording at any time. You can contact Dr Anna Jones at the address at the end of this information sheet. Whilst CETL4HealthNE will clearly state that unauthorised use of any material is forbidden, other people may make use of the material in ways outside CETL4HealthNE’s control. Support Interviewers will offer emotional support during and after story telling, and many people find that there are therapeutic benefits to telling their stories. Reimbursement You will be able to get back the expenses that you have incurred making the recording of your story. Permission This CETL4HealthNE project aims to gather together stories that can be shared across the North East for use in the education of students in health and social care by using internet technology. You will have the ability to edit your story and control the final version of the recording and you also retain the legal ownership of your story. The material that you record must not infringe any law. CETL4Health will ask you to give permission for he use of the recording on its web pages. CETL4HealthNE will make sure that: Your story can be used for the education of health and social care professionals in the North East No profit will be made from the stories The meaning of your story is maintained You are acknowledged, but your confidentiality is maintained You are contacted within two weeks of consenting to be involved to arrange collection of your story.
