Objective: Students will understand the basic uses of myfamily.com, and how they can start their
own accounts
Resources: Computer with projecting capabilities, laptop, whiteboard marker
Instructional Strategies: Students will be presented information through auditory, visual and
kinesthetic learning. Auditory: presentation from me; Visual: presentation through use of
projector; Kinesthetic: students will learn about myfamily.com by actively setting up their own
site, if so desired.
Introduction:
 Students will be introduced to a wiki site, in which they can have a private website with
their own family members, being able to decide what to include and sharing information
Body:
 I will walk the class through on how to set up their own personal accounts. I will
demonstrate on the classroom computer the easy steps on how to create their own
accounts
 I will introduce the students to my own private website, and allow them to see what its
capabilities are.
 Discuss the positive and negatives involved with using this type of a site. (Positive: have a
relatively safe and secure site to share information and other materials with those invited
to the site; one person is responsible for inviting participants to the site, helping to keep it
more private; there’s a variety of media forms that can be accessed to share information,
everyone is able to post information to the site, including photos, news, calendar, video,
chat and so on. Negative: No site is ever 100% safe and secure from uninvited guests
being able to access and view information posted; difficulty in ensuring appropriate
information in posted, administrator does have ability to delete certain information; After
the 30-day trial ends, there is a required fee to continue the use of the site)
 This type of media cite could be used in the classroom in the form of a sharing tool when
doing class research, a helpful study tool, a homework help site, and so on. (Ask students
in class what other applications this type of site could be used for)
Closing:
 If time permits, allow students to start setting up their own site.
