Corporate Informat ion and Comput ing Services (CiCS) is a diverse department providing a wide range of services to the University, organised into seven service areas:

CiCS has over 200 staff, based in three different sect ions:
Customer Services, responsible for improving communicat ion, supporting learning & teaching and developing customer service quality across the department
Technical Services, responsible for creat ing and maintaining high quality IT systems and services, which meet the ever increasing demands of the University community.
Business Services, responsible for managing Corporate Informat ion and Project Management groups along with taking responsibility for the administrat ive, business and management aspects of CiCS.

The University of Sheffield is committed to cont inuous improvement of its business processes, and towards this end is establishing a ‘Process Improvement Unit’ to deliver a permanent and fundamental shift in inst itut ional culture. This shift will be achieved primarily by managing improvement projects across the University to deliver against the following object ives:
To ident ify processes in need of improvement
To assist the steering group with prioritisat ion of improvements
To facilitate improvement events
To monitor the implementat ion of improvements
To embed a culture of cont inuous process improvement within the University
To train staff in process improvement techniques and tools
To communicate the work of the unit widely, both within and outside the University
You will be one of two co-ordinators in the unit who will have as their main dut ies the investigation of process improvement opportunit ies, the running of Rapid Improvement events, disseminat ion of good pract ice and embedding a ‘Lean’ culture within the organisat ion.
The work of the unit will be directed by a steering group composed of senior academics and administrat ive staff.
Manage change initiat ives:
investigate and ident ify areas for business process improvement;
engage stakeholders in change processes to ensure commitment;
develop appropriate skills and approaches in employees;
manage employees through change processes;
ensure significant improvements in work pract ices are made;
manage implementat ion of projects and ensure outcome delivery;
Develop an inst itut ional climate for permanent and fundamental cultural change:
guide senior managers in developing a LEAN Management approach;
provide direct ion for organisat ional effect iveness and efficiency;
manage expectat ions surrounding organisat ional change;
resolve conflict ing agendas;
increase team work across funct ional areas;
Report on act ivit ies:
present quarterly report to Steering Group;
run seminars concerning process improvement at the University and on PI methods generally;
present at external seminars concerning process improvement as pract ised at the University and
generally; input into Business Transformat ion plan;
Perform any other dut ies commensurate with the grade of the post.

Salary for this grade: £37,012 - £44,166 per annum. Potent ial to progress to £49,689 per annum through sustained except ional contribut ion.
