Outcome 3 thoughts Just by being a citizen of the United States of America we are endowed with certain rights. We really don’t have to think very hard about what these rights are because they come naturally. The United States of America was founded on a set of PRINCIPLES about how citizens in a country should be treated by each other and by a government of their choice. As employees of Indiana University, we similarly have a set of EXPECTATIONS about that relationship, both from the university’s perspective and our personal perspective. Unlike the relationship with our country, which for many of us is an accident of birth, we have individually chosen to associate ourselves with Indiana University and specifically Indiana University Northwest. Many of these expectations or agreed ways of interaction are codified in a set of rules and regulations found in a handbook and kept out of the way on our bookshelves. The task of the Strategic Outcome number 3 committee is to develop a short set of PRINCIPLES that will not modify existing academic or staff rules or regulations, but rather enable our interaction within and without the University community to reflect understanding and acceptance of those natural principles which govern interactions between free peoples and with a responsible and responsive employer.
