Elements of financial theory will be presented, with a view towards understanding the implications of risk, cost of capital, capital structure, and dividend policy, international aspect of corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions as well as derivatives for hedging corporate risk. Students are encouraged to further their knowledge of current events by reading financial magazines, newspapers, websites, etc. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course students will be expected to: Analyze major corporate finance issues Demonstrate knowledge of the theory underpinning corporate valuation Demonstrate knowledge of the basics of risk and return for cost of capital valuation Recognize and understand the principles underlying risk management and options valuation Understand dividend policy for increasing shareholder value Value mergers and acquisitions Mark Allocation: Midterm Exams: February 7, 2012 March 20, 2012 April 12, 2011 Final Exam 25% 25% 20% 30% Total 100% Students: You MUST be prepared to remain on campus until the last day of your personal examination schedule. Notes: 1. There is no make-up midterm exam. If you miss the midterm exam for a valid reason, mark for the midterm will be added to the final exam. Students are allowed to bring calculator and one crib sheet (8.5”x11”) both sides in the midterm examination. 3. This is a demanding course. There is a considerable amount of preliminary reading, which should be done before each class. It would be difficult to do well if one falls behind in covering this reading material.
